Don't Trash Your Tree, Mulch It!

Happy New Year Cobble Hill! The NYC Parks Department will be running its annual Mulchfest, where the city collects christmas trees to be chipped into mulch. Rather than leaving your tree on the curb, "treecycle" it at Cobble Hill Park next weekend on January 9th and 10th. Bringing your tree to Mulchfest saves the DSNY time and money and supplies the Parks Department with mulch that it uses in its stewardship of the city's natural areas. Mulch will also be available at Cobble Hill Park for any home gardeners.

Tree Chipping this weekend

We already chipped some Xmas trees last weekend at Cobble Hill Park, but this weekend it will continue with the Parks Department Mulchfest 2013. Please remember to remove all lights and ornaments before bringing the tree to the park and make sure to bring it only within the designated hours.

Cobble Hill Mulchfest January 5th

While the citywide Mulchfest program will be happening in two weeks, January 12th & 13th, Cobble Hill will be having its own tree recycling one week earlier... on Saturday, January 5th, at Cobble Hill Park. Please see the flyer below for full details.

Though trees are going up in homes citywide now, please remember to responsibly dispose of them when the holiday season is over. NYC Parks Dept. will be doing a tree recycling as part of Mulchfest 2013.

Join the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, the New York City Department of Sanitation , and GreeNYC  to recycle your Christmas trees into wood chips. These wood chips are used to nourish trees and plants on streets and gardens citywide. Or, take home your very own bag of mulch to use in your backyard or to make a winter bed for a street tree . More than 24,000 trees were recycled last year. Help us top this number!

Please remember to remove all lights and ornaments before bringing the tree to a MulchFest site. Biodegradable bags will be provided if you wish to take some free mulch home.

TIME: 9:30 am – 1:30 pm

Bring your holiday tree to Cobble Hill Park, at Clinton Street and Verandah Place, and other locations city-wide, to be recycled into mulch that will nourish plantings across the city!

Join us and New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, the New York City Department of Sanitation, and GreenNYC to recycle your Christmas trees into wood chips.
These wood chips are used to nourish trees and plants on streets and gardens citywide. Or, take home your very own bag of mulch to use in your backyard or to make a winter bed for a street tree.

Last year, close to 17,000 Christmas trees citywide were recycled. Please help us top this number! This year, MulchFest will take place on January 7 and 8, 2012. Parks will host over 35 chipping sites and 35 additional drop-off locations: over 70 sites in all! And this year, you can bring your tree to a drop-off site from January 2 through January 8. It’s easier than ever to chip in!

Please remember to remove all lights and ornaments before bringing the tree to a MulchFest site. Biodegradable bags will be provided if you wish to take some free mulch home.

Wreaths, garlands, and artificial trees cannot be accepted and remember that tress will NOT be accepted after the scheduled times.
