The Cobble Hill Association has led an initiative to rejoin the neighborhood left divided by Robert Moses' BQE cut in the early 1950's. Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez secured $300,000 of federal transportation funds to study ways to reconnect the waterfront with the Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens neighborhoods. The first of what will be a series of community input sessions was held in May, 2010. And while the funds will not go very far, we are encouraged by the first round of community response in making the crossing of this BQE "ditch" safer, cleaner and more beautiful. We are especailly grateful to Congresswoman Velazquez for helping us in this effort.
