"The Intern" filming in Cobble Hill on Thursday 6.26

Our neighborhood continues to draw attention citywide, and this week Warner Brothers is coming to visit. They'll be using our local park for a scene in an upcoming project called 'The Intern.' You've likely already seen signs posted in the neighborhood as some parking restrictions will be in effect in and around Cobble Hill Park. We thank the studio for reaching out to the community in advance and know they will be partners in resolving any issues that may arise from this temporary inconvenience.

For the purposes of staging scenes and parking production vehicles, PARKING will be held in advance of filming on these blocks:
  • Amity St, South Side, b/t Henry St & Court St
  • Amity St, North Side, b/t Henry & Court St [2 truck lengths near Clinton St]
  • Clinton St, East Side, b/t Congress St & Amity St

Cobble Hill Association Statement on Long Island College Hospital

BROOKLYN – Today, the Cobble Hill Association released the following statement regarding Long Island College Hospital (LICH):
The Cobble Hill community is deeply disappointed that the SUNY Board has chosen a developer who is not committed to building and maintaining a full service hospital in Brooklyn – especially as viable alternatives existed that would have provided for the immediate resumption of ambulance service and the ER department and which would have conducted a critically needed community needs assessment to help guide healthcare decision-making. SUNY's decision to proceed with the sale of LICH marks the end of a purely benevolent institution that served its community for over 156 years with compassion and dignity. There were no reasons for this tragic closure other than SUNY's mismanagement, lack of vision, andgreed. We still have much work to be done, but today we mourn the passing of our beloved institution.

Save LICH Updates

This weekend, the fight to keep our hospital alive had additional twists and turns, from Judge Baynes tossing out our case to re-score the blatantly suspect RFP evaluations to SUNY moving one step closer to a new LICH deal with Fortis Developers.  With countless ups and downs happening in the blink of an eye during this ongoing effort, our Cobble Hill Association twitter feed - @CobbleHillAssoc - has always the best place to get updates on that topic. Please continue to follow the feed for the latest.

New CHA executive board begins June 16th

Jeff Strabone receives a Cobble Hill Hero award for his ongoing fight to Save LICH
If you missed our Cobble Hill Association Spring General Meeting last month, you unfortunately missed some wonderful insights from our new neighbor, the Department of Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg. She spoke about the agency at large, the Mayor's Vision Zero safety plan, and took note of local needs in our vicinity on Atlantic Avenue, Court Street, Hicks Street, and more.

In addition, Cobble Hill Hero awards were given out to Jeff Strabone for leading the long fight to Save LICH as well as to DOT's Chris Hrones and the CHA's Dave 'Paco' Abraham for tireless efforts to improve pedestrian safety throughout the neighborhood. Lastly, a new slate of executive board officers were approved by the membership and are listed below.

Monday, June 16th will be the new board's first meeting and will cover many topics. Though the meeting itself is for CHA officers, we welcome residents' concerns and will block out some time for public input if necessary - but please first contact us at cobblehillassociation@gmail.com to be put on the agenda.

LICH Rally: Tuesday at 9 am on the Courthouse steps

Tuesday may be our very last hope. With SUNY having executed Peebles just days after our settlement with them, it seems very clear that misconduct continues to occur. We need to stand together in this next fight, which may be our last. Thanks to our sleuth extraordinaire, Barbara Gartner, our motion is strengthened by important new evidence. We need all community members and elected officials to stand with us Tuesday morning at 9:00 am. We will gather on the steps of the courthouse. I believe Peebles, Prime Health and BHP representatives will stand with us together to decry SUNY’s manipulation of this process, effectively denying us the benefit of our original settlement. Please gather with us in force to make Albany understand clearly that Brooklyn will long remember this treachery. Our motion will be heard at 10 am.

Date: Tuesday, June 3rd
Time: 9:00 AM
Location: New York State Supreme Courthouse at 360 Adams Street.
